The start guide designed to help new users to handle the basics of the software.

How to start
During start-up the PackLib window will open in the web portal. You can now open the tree structure to navigate through the libraries by clicking the green button (start) or by clicking « Root » directly in the tree structure.
You also have the possibility to enter the download area by clicking the blue button. This way you will have access to all PackLib libraries. You can find more details in the following chapter.
Navigate through the PackLib tree structure to the left or by clicking the icons in the main window.
In the PackLib tree structure you have the possibility to add a new branch or subdivision (a file), or to add a document (CAO-map, settings, pdf, doc, image…) by right-clicking a file.
Resizable standard libraries
PackLib is a large library of packaging, plv, display and furniture models to be resized. Its content is classified in different template libraries, where you can find the standard packaging-specific classifications: The FEFCO code for packaging corrugated cardboard, the ECMA code for packaging in compact cardboard. There is also a dedicated library for each type of template: packaging, display, wrap, re-board, furniture ...
To download a new library / models
PackLib gives access to a large number of packaging solution data. With library downloads, you will boost your offer to respond more effectively to customer expectations. You also gain flexibility, and speed, especially if you have to deal with similar requests. This way the PackLib platform will broaden your expertise and will thus strengthen the collaboration of commercial, marketing and research & development services.
In order to access the download page, use the icon: , located in the toolbar or in the tree structure. Once the page is displayed, select the library you wish to download. Once the latter is underlined in blue, you can use one of the "Download" buttons at the left side of the main window.
You will see two download options: "Download / New" : Only the non-existing files will be added. "Download / Update" : All the library files will be added, similar files will be replaced. Loading the new database may take a few minutes. You now have a new library model in the tree structure on the left side of the software. Click "Root" to open the browser.
Create and add your own parametric models
Thanks to Picador you can create your own parametric models via the toolbar «Settings»:
First you need to define the parametric dimensions on your Picador design. Afterwards, you establish relationships between parameters, using mathematical formulas. Finally, you save your plan as a parametric component (.dll). Now, you only need to add it to PackLib as a new document. By default the component is generated in the directory C:/PICADOR/Plugins.
In the PackLib tree structure (at the left side of the window), you can add a new branch, (a file/folder), or add a document (CAD-map, settings, pdf, doc, image…) by right-clicking a folder.
Well integrated, your PackLib library will save you a lot of time in future projects, in order to quickly create a custom-designed solution for your customers. Your knowledge will thus be optimally structured in order to serve you better.

Synchronize PLM PackLib and administer your PackLib library at several positions
Synchronize your libraries
At first, each position, equipped with PackLib, has its own database. The aim of this operation is to synchronize the library PackLib, so it is the same on all computers. This way you can create and share libraries, accessible from all positions. You can start by creating the folder PackLibDATA on one of the directories on your local network. This is the folder that will contain PackLib documents. The most stable solution is to create a network drive corresponding to this directory (P:). Copy the folder "Data", situated in "C:/wpicador/" from the position, which will serve as reference. Then paste it into the directory PackLibDATA on your network. The PackLib data are now stored on your local network, ready to use. Then, open PLMPackLib on each position you want to synchronize. In the menu Database ; Define the paths of the database... select the document PicParam.db contained in the directory ../PackLibDATA/Data/Database/ confirm. The position is synchronized.
Save your library
Also create a file Save in the directory PackLibDATA, in which you regularly do a backup of your database via the function Database. Then Save. So in case of improper handling, you can recover your database. Now you can synchronize as many positions as you like. The information is contained on your local network so there is no exchange by internet; your data is unlikely to be disclosed.

PackLib Smart Assembly is an innovative solution for packaging by assembling components and subcomponents. Smart Assembly also allows the user to navigate graphically and intuitively among thousands of possibilities while maintaining consistency in its assembly structure. Packaging consists of three main components: the box base, the high and low architecture of the box.
Each component of a packaging has special features in order to meet a variety of uses. This comprehensive approach of the design of packaging is concentrated on its features and its usage, in order to optimize the packaging within the lifecycle (PLM) of a packaging system.
The construction of the half-architectures
Each half-architecture is built around a box base, corresponding to the chosen style of packaging. To this base are added various elements which form the packaging. The half-architecture appeals to a number of subcomponents, attached to the box’s base. (fig1)
This fully automated approach brings great interest to the Smart Assembly because it enables to set each subcomponent for it to respond to the constraints of manufacture and use of packaging. The Smart Assembly stays user-friendly, but at the same time it allows a parameter setting for professionals in the packaging industry. (fig.2)
The architecture variants
Each half-architecture also contains an option panel, corresponding to improvements in the use of packaging and variants to its closure system or hooking. The variants are constructed by adding an additional subcomponent to the half-architecture.
For instance, the Tuck-End has four variants with specific features. As for other sub-components of the half-architecture they are highly customizable.
Moreover, the Smart Assembly is an open system because it is possible for the user to integrate its own subcomponents. This way you can create your own library, integrating the expertise of the company in packaging design.
